Preparation of the Smart Cities Study 2023
Over the coming months, the new Smart Cities Study 2023 will be released. It is entitled "Cities as innovation ecosystems contributing to the achievement of the SDGs".
The Smart Cities Study 2023 focuses on cities as innovation-driven ecosystems; spaces of collaboration, creativity, and innovation where pilot projects are generated in response to social and economic challenges in society. These projects drive R&D&I from a public-private perspective and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Study is approached with a global and transversal focus on the axes of growth and transformation of a smart city. Its objectives are:
- To visualise the current situation and the main trends in the axes of smart cities at local level.
- Show success stories (good practices) that can serve as a reference for other cities to advance in the concept of "Smart City".
- Identify the main barriers and key enablers that can have an impact on the development of smart cities.
- Link the good practices shown in each of the six axes at local level, in their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals defined in the 2030 Agenda.
Elaboración del Smart Cities Study 2023
Durante los próximos meses, el nuevo estudio Smart Cities Study 2023 verá la luz. Se titula «Ciudades como ecosistemas de innovación que contribuyen al logro de los ODS».
El Estudio de Smart Cities Study 2023 se enfoca en las ciudades como ecosistemas impulsados por la innovación; espacios de colaboración, creatividad e innovación en los que se generan proyectos piloto en respuesta a retos sociales y económicos de la sociedad. Estos proyectos impulsan la I+D+i desde una perspectiva público-privada y contribuyen a la consecución de la Agenda 2030 de Naciones Unidas, y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible.
El Estudio se plantea con un enfoque global y transversal a los ejes de crecimiento y transformación de una ciudad inteligente. Tiene como objetivos:
- Visualizar la situación actual y las principales tendencias en los ejes de las ciudades inteligentes a nivel local.
- Mostrar casos de éxito (buenas prácticas) que puedan servir de referencia a otras ciudades para avanzar en el concepto de «Smart City».
- Identificar las principales barreras y los elementos facilitadores clave que pueden resultar de impacto en el desarrollo de las ciudades inteligentes.
- Vincular las buenas prácticas mostradas en cada uno de los seis ejes a nivel local, en su contribución a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible definidos en la Agenda 2030.
Smart City Expo 2023
The new edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress will take place from 7-9 November in Barcelona.
Smart City Expo 2023 will be the largest to date and will showcase to the world the smart solutions shaping this new era: those that are helping cities today to thrive and create safer, greener and more efficient urban spaces.

La nueva edición de la Smart City Expo World Congress tendrá lugar del 7 al 9 de noviembre en Barcelona.
Smart City Expo 2023 será la más grande hasta la fecha y mostrará al mundo las soluciones inteligentes que dan forma a esta nueva era: aquellas que actualmente ayudan a las ciudades a prosperar y crear espacios urbanos más seguros, más verdes y eficientes.

Focus group for the elaboration of the Smart Cities Study 2023
In the focus group, carried out simultaneously with two groups (English and Spanish) on 10 May 2023, two participatory dynamics were conducted with the participating local governments:
1. First dynamic- in order to identify initiatives, projects and good practices in the 6 axes of the study (smart economy, new mobility, environment, digital citizenship, quality of life and smart governance), and link them to the achievement of the SDGs.
2. Second dynamic, to identify the main barriers and enablers of innovation at the local level, as well as to define the main SDGs that are addressed in local governments for each of the axes of the study.
Both participatory dynamics were attended by more than 30 representatives of local governments at the international level.
Focus group para la elaboración del Smart Cities Study 2023
En el focus group, realizado de manera simultánea con dos grupos (inglés y castellano), el pasado 10 de mayo de 2023, se realizaron dos dinámicas participativas con los gobiernos locales participantes:
1. Primera dinámica, con el fin de identificar iniciativas, proyectos y buenas prácticas en los 6 ejes del estudio (economía inteligente, nueva movilidad, medio ambiente, ciudadanía digital, calidad de vida y gobernanza inteligente), y vincularlos al logro de los objetivos ODS.
2. Segunda dinámica, identificar las principales barreras y elementos facilitadores del impulso a la innovación a nivel local, así como definir los principales ODS que se abordan en los gobiernos locales por cada uno de los ejes del Estudio.
Ambas dinámicas participativas contaron con la participación de más de 30 representantes de gobiernos locales a nivel internacional.
