Growing Together

“La ciudad ha lanzado el proyecto Growing Together, que actualizará el marco de planificación para estas áreas de estaciones de tránsito, permitiendo y fomentando un crecimiento responsable para el futuro.”

OBJETIVO

Un porcentaje significativo del crecimiento en Kitchener se está dando alrededor de las áreas del sistema de tren ligero ION LRT. La construcción y crecimiento alrededor del transporte público es un principio fundamental del marco de planificación de Ontario. Creciendo juntos, actualizará el marco de planificación para estas áreas, conocidas como Áreas de Estaciones Principales de Tránsito, permitiendo y fomentando un crecimiento responsable para el futuro.

DESCRIPCIÓN DE LAS ACTUACIONES DESARROLLADAS

Creciendo juntos es un proyecto pionero en su integración de los mundos físico y digital, aprovechando el mismo modelo en 3D y su metodología para comunicar contenidos complejos al público y construir una comprensión compartida. Asimismo, genera multitud de escenarios de crecimiento y métricas cuantitativas directamente relacionadas con la participación de la comunidad.

FACTORES CLAVE DE ÉXITO

Enfoque en la participación de la comunidad. La Ciudad de Kitchener ha estado trabajando de cerca con organizaciones locales y residentes para identificar las necesidades y oportunidades más apremiantes en cada vecindario. Esto ha implicado una variedad de actividades, incluidas consultas comunitarias, encuestas y talleres, incluida la solicitud de comentarios mediante el uso de un modelo de ciudad impreso en 3D.

PRINCIPALES RESULTADOS OBTENIDOS

Participación de casi 600 residentes con el modelo impreso en 3D desde enero de 2023, traducción de los resultados de talleres en múltiples escenarios de crecimiento dentro del modelo inteligente y generación de datos cuantitativos para comparación, y la participación de la comunidad en la creación de escenarios de crecimiento para comparación y evaluación utilizando datos, lo que significa que los residentes estarán directamente conectados con los resultados de las políticas y estrategias. Por último, el proyecto ha ganado dos premios hasta la fecha: un premio Smart50 y un premio a la Excelencia en Sistemas Municipales 2023.

Growing Together

The city has launched the Growing Together project, which will update the planning framework for these transit station areas, enabling and encouraging responsible growth for the future.

OBJECTIVES

A significant percentage of growth in Kitchener is occurring around areas of the ION LRT light rail system. Building and growing around public transit is a fundamental tenet of Ontario’s planning framework. Growing Together will update the planning framework for these areas, known as Major Transit Station Areas, allowing, and encouraging responsible growth for the future.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIONS CARRIED OUT

Growing Together is a pioneering project in its integration of the physical and digital worlds, leveraging the same 3D model and methodology to communicate complex content to the public and build shared understanding. It also generates a multitude of growth scenarios and quantitative metrics directly related to community participation.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Focus on community involvement. The City of Kitchener has been working closely with local organizations and residents to identify the most pressing needs and opportunities in each neighbourhood. This has involved a variety of activities, including community consultations, surveys, and workshops, including soliciting feedback through the use of a 3D printed city model.

MAIN RESULTS ACHIEVED

Engaging nearly 600 residents with the 3D printed model since January 2023, translating workshop results into multiple growth scenarios within the smart model and generating quantitative data for comparison, and engaging the community in creating growth scenarios for comparison and evaluation using data, meaning residents will be directly connected to policy and strategy outcomes. Finally, the project has won two awards to date: Smart50 award and a Municipal Systems Excellence 2023 award.
